Rethinking How We Learn

Rethinking How We Learn

By Jason T. Rogers

This space—this blog—is something I’m building with intention. A place to gather tools, videos, and conversations that support both teachers and learners. Not just in mastering content, but in reshaping how we think about education itself.

One video I want to share with you today gets right to the heart of that.

It’s a TED Talk by Anant Agarwal, a professor at MIT and head of edX, a platform many of you might already know. He opens with a simple but bold statement:

“I’d like to start by reimagining education.”

And that’s exactly what he does over the next 15 minutes.

A New Model for Learning

Agarwal lays out a concept he calls blended learning—a mix of digital learning tools and in-person teaching. It’s not about replacing teachers or classrooms. It’s about enhancing the way students learn by combining the best of both worlds.

The first part of the model uses online learning platforms, where students get instant feedback as they work through interactive lessons. That part really stuck with me. As Agarwal puts it:

“Instant feedback turns teaching moments into learning outcomes.”

That’s a powerful shift. No more waiting days to find out what you got wrong. You learn in the moment. You adjust. You improve.

But the second part is just as important—face-to-face interaction still matters. In fact, it becomes even more valuable when paired with digital tools. The classroom becomes a space for deeper conversations, applied practice, and real connection—not just lectures.

Why This Matters

What Agarwal describes is more than a technical shift. It’s a philosophical one. It asks us to stop thinking of education as a one-way delivery of knowledge, and start seeing it as a shared, evolving experience.

And honestly, this idea of blended learning—it’s just one part of a much bigger vision I believe is possible. A vision where learning is flexible, human, and designed to actually stick.

If you’ve got a few minutes, I really recommend watching the talk. Not just to hear about the tools, but to catch a glimpse of what learning could look like when we’re willing to rethink the system.
